Advanced Anal Toys: Vibrating, Glass & Remote-Controlled Options

Vibrating, glass and remote anal toys compared: what each upgrade adds, two 2026 recalls, app privacy, and the base rule in 71.3% of vibrator injuries.

Most advice about anal toys stops at the same place: buy a small silicone plug, use more lubricant than you think, go slowly. That advice is correct, and it is also where it runs out for anyone who has already done it.

Past that point, size is the wrong question. The decision turns on who controls the toy and what the surface is made of. A motor changes the rhythm, a remote hands the rhythm to someone else, and glass changes how the toy feels in the hand and how it gets cleaned.

This guide compares the three upgrades worth considering once a basic plug feels easy: a vibrating anal plug, a glass toy, and remote or app control. It draws on regulator recalls and peer-reviewed data, and it marks which of these options this shop actually stocks.

Key Takeaways

  • An “advanced” anal toy adds a control layer or a different material. Size is the least useful upgrade after the first few weeks.
  • Vibration is mainstream and rarely harmful: 52.5% of women and 44.8% of men in US national surveys had used a vibrator, and 71.5% of women users reported no genital symptoms (Herbenick 2009; Reece 2009).
  • A motor does not replace a flared base. In 2000-2019 US emergency data, the device could not be removed from the rectum without medical help in 71.3% of vibrator injuries and 83.6% of dildo injuries (Forrester 2021).
  • Remote control gives in-room partner control with no phone or account. App control buys distance, and all three app-controlled toys in a January 2026 consumer test sent usage data and identifiers to the manufacturer (VKI 2026).
  • Glass is safe when it is borosilicate and inspected before each use. This range stocks silicone and metal, not glass.

What makes an anal toy “advanced”?

An advanced anal toy is one that adds a control layer or a different material to a shape you already know works. A 3.5 cm plug with a motor and a remote is not advanced because it is bigger. What makes it advanced is that a partner can change the pattern without reaching back, or that the surface is heavy glass which holds warmth.

The demand is ordinary. In a US nationally representative survey of 2,056 women aged 18 to 60, 52.5% had used a vibrator (Herbenick et al., Journal of Sexual Medicine, 2009). A companion survey of 1,047 men put lifetime use at 44.8%, with 10.0% using one in the past month (Reece et al., 2009). A German survey of 1,723 adults found 52% had used a sex toy with a partner and 45% alone (Döring & Poeschl, Journal of Sex Research, 2020). These are population samples, not customer lists.

No upgrade is free. Vibration brings noise, a battery and a higher price. Remote control brings a handset to keep track of; app control brings an account and a data trail on top of that. Glass and metal bring weight, and glass also brings the inspection habit. None of them changes the base, the lubricant, the pace or the cleaning, and those four decide whether the toy is safe.

If you have not yet had a comfortable session with a static plug, start with our guide to plug, bead and hook types and the pain-free insertion guide.

Vibrating anal plugs: what the motor adds, and what it asks for

Vibration adds a rhythmic signal a static plug cannot produce, and for some people it makes insertion easier because the buzz competes with the sensation of stretch. It does not replace slowness, lubricant or a flared base, and it makes a poor first purchase if a static plug still feels like work.

The motor spec matters less than how it feels at the lowest setting. A low, deep rumble reads as pressure that travels; a high, buzzy motor reads as surface tickle and feels intense before it feels good. Look for reviews that mention the first speed, not the top speed.

Main view of the black 3-in-1 thrusting anal vibrator with wireless remote control
The thrusting anal vibrator pairs a remote with a moving shaft. Motion is a different upgrade from vibration, and a louder one.

Three practical checks before buying:

  1. The base must flare wider than the widest part of the body. A narrow neck with a decorative cap is not safe, however good the motor is.
  2. Check runtime, not just charge time. A 60-minute runtime is normal at this size; a 50-minute runtime with a two-hour charge is also normal. Both decide whether the toy fits a session.
  3. Check the noise claim against the room. “Whisper quiet” is marketing. In a shared flat, look for a stated decibel figure or buy from a range you can return.

Side effects are uncommon and usually temporary. In the 2009 survey, 71.5% of women who used a vibrator reported no genital symptoms; the most common complaint among the rest was brief numbness that resolved on its own (Herbenick et al., 2009). If numbness appears, stop rather than turning the power up.

Vibration also carries through the rectal wall toward the prostate, though the motor is not what targets the gland. A curved shape does that. If prostate stimulation is the goal, start with our Prostate Massage 101 guide before choosing a toy.

Our in-stock vibrating options sit in the vibrating anal plug collection. The remote-control silicone plug is the smallest of the group; the thrusting anal vibrator adds motion and a cock ring.

Remote and app control: who should hand over the controls

A remote and an app are not the same upgrade. A wireless remote gives a partner control from across the room without a phone, an account or a terms-of-service agreement. An app gives control from another city, and takes an account, a data trail and a software update cycle in exchange.

The remote is the more conservative choice, and for most couples the better one. Range is typically around 10 metres, which covers a room and a wall. The handset usually runs on a replaceable button battery, and many models include a button on the toy as a fallback. The ways it can go wrong are simple: a lost handset or a flat battery, and both are fixable.

App control is a different product category with a different risk profile. In July 2025, a security researcher disclosed that Lovense accounts could be taken over using only an email address, and that registered emails could be extracted while interacting with other users. The company said the account-takeover issue had been addressed (TechCrunch, 29 July 2025). Lovense describes its user base as more than 20 million people, which is a company figure, not a count of affected accounts.

Six months later, the Austrian consumer body VKI tested 18 sex toys (11 dildos and vibrators, 4 masturbators and 3 anal plugs) for chemicals, build quality and app behaviour. Five products were flagged. Two contained nonylphenol, a suspected endocrine disruptor, below the EU limit but still a concern for frequent use. Separately, all three app-controlled models in the sample sent usage statistics plus user and device identifiers to the manufacturer; the Lush 4 app was reported to have passed data to ChatGPT. All three were rated “not satisfactory” (VKI, 21 January 2026).

None of this rules app control out, but it does put a data cost on the choice. Use the toy without the app when the app is optional, register with a separate email and a username you do not reuse, decline analytics where possible, keep the firmware updated, and clear session history after use. If the partner is in the same room, a remote does the same job and needs no account.

Our current range has no app-controlled anal toy in stock. The in-stock alternative is the remote layer: the remote rotating plug, or the 3-in-1 anal vibrator with a twin cock ring.

Glass anal toys: the firmest option, and the one risk that matters

Borosilicate glass is non-porous, sterilisable, heavier than silicone, and able to hold warmth or cold. The practical risk is a chip or hairline crack from a drop or from storage against another toy, which is why inspection before every use is the one habit glass demands.

Glass does not give, so it passes pressure along instead of absorbing it, and the weight makes slow movement feel deliberate. It also conducts temperature: a few minutes in warm water or the fridge changes the sensation. Warm, not hot; cool, not freezing. Test any temperature on your wrist first, and stop if the body responds with cramping rather than relaxation.

Glass and metal are easier than silicone on lubricant, since they take silicone-based as well as water-based. They are easier to clean too. With no motor, coating or porous part, both can be washed with soap and warm water or boiled for around three minutes (Healthline).

ISO 3533:2021, the first international safety standard for sex toys, treats anal products as a separate risk category. It requires that products intended for anal use have “sufficient mechanisms and design features to prevent them from being inserted further than intended”, consider the ratio between the base and the neck, and remain extractable by a medical professional if the worst happens (ISO 3533:2021). A glass plug with a narrow base fails that test just as surely as a cheap silicone one.

This shop does not currently stock glass. The range is silicone and metal. If glass is what you want, our guide to body-safe materials and glass dildos explains what to look for and what to inspect. If you want the firm-surface feel without the breakage question, the jeweled metal plug has a flared base and the same non-porous cleaning behaviour.

The base rule does not get more optional as the toy gets more expensive

Every upgrade in this article still depends on a flared base or a retrieval ring. The motor, the remote and the material do not change how the rectum works: it can draw a base-less object past the point where fingers can reach.

The emergency data is blunt. Across US emergency departments from 2000 to 2019, there were an estimated 18,547 vibrator injuries and 6,468 dildo injuries. The 35.4% of vibrator injuries recorded in the final four years of the study fit a growing market rather than a safer one (Forrester, Journal of Sex & Marital Therapy, 2021).

A flared base is not a beginner feature. In US emergency data, 71.3% of vibrator injuries and 83.6% of dildo injuries involved a device that could not be removed from the rectum without medical help (Forrester 2021).

In Swedish hospital records, sex toys accounted for 41% of retained rectal objects, yet they were responsible for six of the eight patients who needed open abdominal surgery, a laparotomy rate of 17% compared with 4% for other objects (Dahlberg et al., International Journal of Colorectal Disease, 2018).

Motorised toys bring one more thing that can break. In April 2026, the UK Office for Product Safety and Standards recalled a remote-controlled rotating toy sold by Ann Summers because parts could detach during use (OPSS recall 2604-0025). The recall was not specific to anal use, but the point transfers: more mechanisms mean more parts that can come loose. Check that the base is a single moulded piece, not a cap screwed onto a motor housing.

If a toy gets stuck, do not reach for tools. Relax, bear down gently and try to grip the base. If it will not come, go to an emergency department promptly. Around three-quarters of retained objects come out at the bedside without surgery, and the odds worsen the further the object travels (StatPearls, 2023).

Materials and lubricant pairings that change with power

Silicone takes water-based lubricant only, because silicone-based lube can degrade the surface. Glass and metal take either. That settles the lubricant question. Cleaning splits the range just as sharply: a motorised toy cannot be boiled or dishwashed, so its waterproof rating and charging port matter more than the material name on the box.

The 2026 recalls show why material claims deserve scrutiny at every price point. In August 2026, the Swiss Federal Office of Public Health recalled a You2Toys latex inflatable anal plug distributed by ORION because it contained too high a concentration of phthalates, chemicals that can affect reproduction (BAG, 7 August 2026). In the VKI test, two products contained nonylphenol below the EU limit but at levels the testers flagged for frequent use. Earlier Danish testing found phthalates at 24% to 60% by weight in cheap soft toys (Danish EPA, 2006). Porous materials, including jelly rubber and soft PVC, cannot be fully sanitised at any price.

Polished metal, not glass: the jeweled plug is non-porous, accepts either lubricant, and can be cleaned thoroughly between uses.

For powered toys, cleaning has limits. Wipe the body with soap and warm water, rinse the silicone or metal section, and keep the charging port dry. Do not submerge a toy beyond its stated waterproof rating, and do not boil anything with a motor, battery, coating or crystal setting. If a toy is shared, or used anally then vaginally, wash it or change the condom first.

How to choose in one minute

Choose by the goal, not the price. A wireless remote suits in-room partner control; an app suits long distance; glass or metal suits firmness and temperature. Every in-stock product in the table is non-porous and lists its control method. We kept the list to products whose price, stock and material we could verify in our own catalogue, and left out anything we could not confirm. This table does not list base design. Check the product page and photos before buying, and ask us if the base is not specified. Prices are the listed range at the time of writing.

The same three mismatches keep showing up. An app toy bought for a partner in the same bed pays a data cost for a feature you will never use. Going up a size before the current plug feels easy buys risk and very little sensation. A noisy rotating toy in a shared flat gives you a reason to leave it in the drawer.

Buying advanced anal toys in the UAE

Privacy and payment belong in the specification for this category. A local warehouse, plain unmarked packaging and cash on delivery decide whether the parcel leaves a trace with a doorman, a roommate or a shared card statement. Those details matter more than an extra vibration pattern.

Orders ship from the Dubai warehouse in plain packaging. Cash on delivery is available across the emirates, so nothing appears on a card statement, and you do not need an account to order. Most UAE addresses arrive in one to three business days; remote areas can take three to four. The full process is documented in how discreet delivery works in the UAE, and the trade-offs between payment methods are covered in cash on delivery versus card.

Returns are the one place to read the policy before ordering. Intimate products are not resellable once opened, so a change-of-mind return is usually not possible; check the returns and refund policy for the exact conditions. The legal position for adults buying and using these products in the UAE is covered in are sex toys legal in the UAE.

Frequently asked questions

Are vibrating anal plugs safe to wear for long periods?

For healthy adults, short sessions carry low risk. Numbness, tingling or pain is a signal to remove the toy, not to increase the setting. Do not wear one while sleeping, and follow the manufacturer’s stated continuous-use time. The 2009 survey found symptoms were uncommon, but that is a measure of what usually happens, not a licence to leave a toy in for hours (Herbenick et al., 2009).

Can you use glass anal toys?

Yes, if the glass is borosilicate and free of chips or cracks. Inspect it before every use, store it separately, and retire it after any drop onto a hard floor. Glass can be boiled if it has no motor or coating, and it works with either water-based or silicone-based lubricant.

Do app-controlled anal toys work long distance?

They can, but they depend on both phones, both connections and the manufacturer’s servers. Disconnects are normal rather than a fault. If the other person is in the same room, a wireless remote is more reliable and does not require an account.

What is the best anal toy after a beginner plug?

A flared-base silicone plug with a remote and a low first speed, not a larger static plug. Start with the smallest remote model you can find and use it on the lowest setting for a full session before changing anything. If you want motion rather than vibration, a rotating or thrusting model is the next step, and it will be louder.

Is vibration bad for the prostate?

There is no evidence that external vibration damages the prostate. A curved shape is what targets the gland, and prostate massage has its own evidence base and contraindications, covered in our Prostate Massage 101 guide.

The bottom line

The upgrade that changes a session is control and material, not size. A remote plug lets a partner set the rhythm without a phone. Glass and metal change weight, temperature and cleaning, provided the base is flared and the surface is inspected. Vibration is mainstream and rarely harmful, but it does not replace slowness, lubricant or a flared base.

If you are choosing now, start with the vibrating anal plug collection or the full anal plug range. If you want to work out which lubricant goes with the toy you pick, our anal lubrication guide covers the pairings in detail.
