By material

Material is the single most important factor in choosing a dildo. It affects safety, sensation, and how you clean it.

Silicone

Medical-grade silicone sets the standard: it is body-safe, non-porous, easy to clean with warm water and soap, and available in soft to firm densities. Silicone dildos are hypoallergenic and compatible with water-based lubricants. Avoid silicone-based lube, which can degrade the material over time.

Glass

Borosilicate glass dildos are non-porous, extremely smooth, and can be warmed or cooled for temperature play. They tend to be firm and weighty, which makes them a good choice for G-spot or prostate pressure. Look for annealed glass to ensure shatter resistance.

Metal / Stainless Steel

Stainless steel dildos have serious weight and a mirror-smooth finish. Like glass, they are non-porous and temperature-responsive. The heft provides intense pressure stimulation, especially for P-spot play. They cost more upfront but last a lifetime with proper care.

TPE / Rubber / Jelly

These materials are softer and often cheaper, but they are porous, which means they can harbor bacteria even after washing. If you choose a TPE dildo, use a condom over it and replace it sooner. For internal use, we always recommend silicone or glass instead.

By size

Size is personal, and bigger is not always better. The right size depends on your experience level and what kind of stimulation you enjoy.

Beginner (4–6 inches)

If this is your first dildo, start slim and modest in length. A diameter of 1–1.25 inches is comfortable for most beginners. Slim, tapered shapes make insertion easier and let you build confidence gradually.

Intermediate (6–8 inches)

Once you know your body's preferences, you can explore girthier or longer options. Look for textured shafts, pronounced veins, or curved tips designed for G-spot or prostate targeting.

Advanced (8+ inches)

Large and extra-large dildos are for experienced users who enjoy a feeling of fullness. Pay extra attention to material: softer silicone can make a large size more comfortable. Always use plenty of lubricant and listen to your body.

By function and design

Beyond material and size, dildos come in a range of specialized designs, each built for a different kind of experience.

Realistic

Molded to resemble a real penis, often with detailed veins, a pronounced head, and skin-toned colors. Dual-density realistic dildos have a firm inner core and a soft outer layer for a very lifelike feel.

Suction Cup

A strong suction-cup base lets you mount the dildo on any smooth surface (a shower wall, floor, or chair), which leaves your hands free. Ideal for solo riding positions and shower play.

Strap-On Compatible

Designed to fit into a harness, strap-on dildos come in a range of sizes and can be used by any partner regardless of anatomy. Look for a flared base for harness compatibility and safety during anal use.

Double-Ended

Double dildos have two insertable ends, which are great for simultaneous penetration with a partner. Some are U-shaped for comfortable shared use; others are straight and suit back-to-back positions.

Anal-Specific

Anal dildos always have a flared base or wide end to prevent over-insertion, plus a tapered tip for easier entry. Often slimmer than vaginal dildos, they are designed with anal safety as the top priority.

Vibrating

These combine the realistic shape of a dildo with built-in vibration, giving you a mix of both types of stimulation. Most are rechargeable via USB and have multiple patterns and intensities.

Before use

Start by getting comfortable. A relaxed body makes for a much better experience. Choose a lubricant that matches your dildo's material: water-based lube is universally compatible and the safest bet for silicone toys (silicone-based lube can bond to and damage silicone). Apply lube generously to both yourself and the toy. If this is your first time, take a few minutes to explore the toy with your hands before inserting. Get comfortable with its weight, texture, and shape.

During use

Go slow at first. There is no rush. Insert the tip and let your body adjust before going deeper. Experiment with different angles (tilting upward often targets the G-spot or prostate better than straight in) and rhythms. Suction-cup dildos work well for hands-free positions mounted on the shower wall or floor. For partnered play, communicate openly. Ask your partner what angle and depth feel best, and adjust together. If anything hurts, stop and add more lubricant. Pain is your body asking you to slow down.

Cleaning and storage

Always clean your dildo after each use. For silicone, glass, and metal dildos: wash with warm water and mild antibacterial soap, or use a dedicated toy cleaner. You can boil silicone or metal toys for 5–10 minutes for a deep sterilisation (never boil glass with internal components or electronic dildos). For TPE or rubber toys, wash with soap and water but never boil; the material will degrade. Store each dildo separately, ideally in a breathable fabric pouch or its original packaging. Different materials can react when stored pressed together, and lint from fabric-lined drawers can cling to silicone.
